Cyber Defenders

The Cyber Defenders programs are education programs that exposes students to real-world cyber security problems.

LANL's College Cyber Defenders program hosted 11 students for the summer of 2003. Students ranged from college freshmen through PhD students. The following schools were represented:

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology
  • University of Arizona
  • University of California, Santa Barbara
  • University of New Mexico
  • University of Southern California
  • University of Utah
Each student worked on one or two projects such as the following:
  • 802.11 direction finding
  • Data fusion using NLP techniques
  • Vulnerability scanning systems
  • Immersive visualization
  • Attack traffic characterization
  • Automated forensics tools
  • Windows protocol analysis of attacks

Cyber Defenders Institute

Moswen the Cyber Dog The Cyber Defenders Institute is an intensive two-week program to introduce cyber security concepts to New Mexico high school students. Our 2003 institute included was held at San Juan College in Farmington and had participation from 44 students from all over New Mexico. See the July 10th News Bulletin for more information.
